Jordan legit check: is it real or fake?

Nike publishes no guide to fakes. It says the only sure way is to buy from nike.com or its authorized dealers. The one check with a source behind it is the style code on the box label.

Answer each check with the piece in front of you, then press Check it. A check marked Counts most is a strong sign on its own. Every check comes from our guide, How to spot fake Jordans when Nike publishes no guide.

  1. 1. Did the pair come from nike.com or a Nike authorized dealer?

"The only way to ensure that a Nike product is genuine is to buy direct from www.nike.com, or from any of our authorised dealers."

    What to look for

That is Nike's own position, from the notice it files with eBay's rights owner programme.

Pass: Bought where Nike says to buy.

Fail: Everything past that is the seller's word, so choose the seller first.

  2. 2. Is it sold as a "variant", a "second" or damaged goods from Nike?Counts most

"Nike sells to authorized dealers only and does not sell seconds, damaged goods or 'variants'."

    What to look for

Look at the listing's words as well as the shoe.

Pass: It is not sold as something Nike says it never sells.

Fail: Nike says it sells no seconds, damaged goods or variants, so a pair sold as one did not come from Nike that way.

  3. 3. Does the box carry a label with the shoe size and the style code?

StockX requires a seller's box to carry "a label that reflects the corresponding shoe size and style code".

    What to look for

Nike prints the style code on its own product pages, in the form IO2463-102.

Pass: The box has the label the check needs.

Fail: Without the label, the one sourced check cannot run.

  4. 4. Search the style code on nike.com. Is the shoe that comes back the shoe in front of you?

Read the code off the box label, search it on nike.com, and see whether the shoe that comes back is the shoe in front of you.

    What to look for

It is a weak check. It catches a lazy fake and a mismatched box, and does nothing against a good fake with a correctly printed label.

Pass: The box and the shoe agree with Nike's own page.

Fail: A different shoe means an invented or a mismatched box. Ask the seller why.

  5. 5. Can the seller tell you who checked the pair, and is that person on staff?

Ask who checked the pair, whether that person is on staff, and what happens if somebody later disagrees.

    What to look for

A pre owned pair on within is sold by a boutique that has the shoe in the room and wrote down its condition.

Pass: A named person checked it.

Fail: Then the pair rests on the seller's word alone.

  6. 6. Has the seller said in writing what happens if somebody later disagrees?

Buy from a party that will still be there in a month, and get its position in writing before you pay.

    What to look for

A name and a street address is more than a checklist gives you.

Pass: The promise is in writing.

Fail: Get it in writing before you pay.

What proves nothing

  • Stitch counts, the rake of the wings, the smell of the glue, the font on the box: almost none of it traces back to Nike.
  • The code stitched inside the shoe matching the box: no published source says so, not Nike and not StockX.
  • A pair that passes by eye: StockX, which says it has rejected over 1.4 million items, adds that unauthorized pairs are often made in the same factory as the real items.

If you bought it online, the seller's return window is your friend

Check the window today. Some are only a few days long.

  • Is StockX legit? On its Listings Marketplace the shoe is checked only if you pay for verification.
  • Is GOAT legit? Thirty days from receipt to report a pair that is fake or not as described. Used pairs are final sale.
  • Is Grailed legit? 3 calendar days from receipt to report a piece that is fake or not as described.
  • Is Poshmark legit? 72 hours from the delivery scan to open a case, then the seller is paid.
  • Is Depop legit? 30 days from purchase to report a problem. Its protection covers 3 countries, not Canada.
  • Is The RealReal legit? Ask for a return within 14 days of the shipment date. A bag without its Return Guarantee is final sale.
  • Is SSENSE legit? 30 calendar days from delivery to ask for a return.
  • Is Farfetch legit? 30 days to send it back, and a Canadian order lands duty paid.
  • Is Cettire legit? A return must reach it within 14 days of delivery.

If you already paid and it turns out fake, destroy it or return it to the seller, the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre says, then report it to local police and to the centre. Where that comes from.
