About Undercover
Undercover is Jun Takahashi's label, and its motto is "We make noise, not clothes." He started it with a friend in 1990, while still a student at Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo, and graduated in 1991.
Takahashi was born in Kiryu, in Gunma, Japan, in 1969. The name was meant to give the label a secret, mysterious feel, and in the late 1980s he also sang in a tribute band called the Tokyo Sex Pistols.
He showed his first collection, for autumn and winter 1994 to 1995, in Tokyo in 1994, and Undercover has shown in Paris since 2002. In October 2010 he and Nike released the first Gyakusou running collection, a name that joins gyaku, reverse, and sou, running.
He won the Mainichi Fashion Grand Prize newcomer award in 1997 and the Grand Prize itself in 2001 and 2013. A piece from his spring summer 2024 women's collection was the main image of the Met's Costume Institute exhibition of 2024.
