Scott Seamans, Lyndon Hanson and George Boedecker Jr. started Crocs in Colorado in 2002. All three were entrepreneurs from Boulder. They acquired a clog design from Foam Creations of Quebec City and meant it as a boating shoe. The first model, the Beach, made its debut at the Fort Lauderdale boat show in Florida that year. The clogs are made of Croslite, a closed cell resin that gives a light, slip resistant, non marking sole. Crocs bought Foam Creations in 2004. In 2006 it bought Jibbitz, maker of the charms that snap into the holes of the shoe. In December 2021 Crocs released the Pollex Clog by designer Salehe Bembury. It carries his fingerprint motif, with deep ridges for grip and removable nylon heel straps.
