In 1964 he opened a Rizzoli bookstore at 712 Fifth Avenue in New York. It moved to West 57th Street in 1985 and to 1133 Broadway in 2015. Rizzoli New York began publishing books in 1974. It is known for illustrated books on fashion, interior design, food, art, architecture and photography. Rizzoli Universe joined in 1990. Rizzoli Electa publishes its museum and exhibition books. Mondadori bought the Rizzoli book business in a sale that closed in April 2016.
