Mike Amiri started Amiri in 2014 in his home town of Los Angeles. Before that he made stage clothes by hand, one piece at a time, for Los Angeles performers. The first Amiri pieces were a capsule sold that year at Maxfield, a Los Angeles shop.
Denim is at the centre of the label, Amiri says, with the bandana print and leather jackets close behind. The MX1 is its jean: Italian stretch denim, distressed by hand and repaired with pleated ultrasuede. Its sneaker is the Skel Top Low, with leather bone shapes sewn on the side.
Mike Amiri has been a CFDA member since 2018, and the first Amiri flagship opened on Rodeo Drive in 2020. In 2019 OTB, the Italian group that owns Diesel, took a minority stake.
