About DOMREBEL
DOMREBEL says its sweatshirts are cut relaxed and fit true to size, in XXS to XXL. Its Headache sweatshirt is 100% cotton loopback French terry, made in Canada, at 285 US dollars on its own shop.
Justin Svatina and Don Nguyen founded DOMREBEL in Montreal in 2003, when they were university students. The label's own page says a collective started it, and that the name comes from the Latin Dominus Rebellis, master of rebellion. It calls itself an art and fashion studio, working from DOMREBEL Studios Montréal in the St Henri neighbourhood.
The McCord Stewart Museum's fashion encyclopedia says it is known for T-shirts, denim and bomber jackets with bold graphics that twist pop culture. One example is a cartoon character drawn as a skeleton holding a gun. Its work uses original cartoon characters, hand painted artworks and pieces finished by hand with embroidery, studs or crystals.
In 2018 its designs were sold at nearly 500 shops in 35 countries. Beyond clothes, the studio makes canvas, sculpture and digital work, and its team of artists and craftsmen finishes garments by hand.
