About Gramicci

Gramicci was born in 1982 in a garage in Ventura, California. Its founder, Mike Graham, was one of the Stonemasters, the Yosemite rock climbers of the 1970s. The name came from a nickname Graham gave himself when a few Stonemasters tried an all Italian climb of Half Dome, though none of them was Italian.
Graham made climbing shorts with a diamond shaped gusset in the crotch, borrowed from kung fu trousers, so a climber could move freely. A nylon webbing belt is built into the waist, and you can tighten it with one hand. After the shorts came the G-Pants, and by the mid 1980s surfers and skaters wore them too, with the small hand drawn running man logo.
Gramicci later moved its home to Japan, after it caught on in Tokyo. Every version keeps the gusset and the built in belt.
