Teddy Santis, born and raised in Queens, New York, founded Aimé Leon Dore in 2014. Aimé is French for loved. Leon was his father's nickname, and Dore comes from Theodore, his own first name. The clothes draw on classic hip hop, basketball and his 1990s youth between Queens and Greece. In 2019 the label's New York store moved to Mulberry Street, with a coffee shop attached. Its New Balance collaborations began in April 2019 with the 997. In 2021 Santis was also named creative director of New Balance Made in USA. In April 2026 the label opened a store on Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood, its third after New York and London.
